What Is Faith? Finding the Unseen in Everyday Life

Faith! What a big word for such a simple concept! But let’s not overcomplicate it. At its core, faith is trusting in something (or Someone) you can’t fully see, touch, or predict. Hebrews 11:1 puts it beautifully: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

Sounds nice, right? But what does that look like in real life, when bills are piling up, stress is sky-high, and life feels like one big question mark? Let’s break it down.

Faith in Everyday Life

Faith is like ordering something online. You click "buy now," pay for it, and then wait (sometimes impatiently), trusting it’ll show up. You don’t need to see the delivery guy to believe your package is on its way. Faith in God works the same way. You trust that He’s working behind the scenes, even when you can’t see the results yet.

How to Build Your Faith Daily

  1. Start SmallFaith doesn’t have to start with grand gestures. It can be as simple as trusting God to guide you through your day. Wake up and say, “God, I trust You with today. Lead me where I need to go.” Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

  2. Pray OftenPrayer is your lifeline to faith. Think of it like talking to a friend—you don’t need fancy words. Share your struggles, your joys, and even your doubts with God. The more you connect with Him, the more natural trusting Him becomes. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 tells us to “Rejoice always,  pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

  3. Look Back at God’s Track RecordThink about the times you prayed and saw answers, even in unexpected ways. Reflecting on how God showed up in the past builds your confidence for the future, if He did it before, He can do it again.  Lamentations 3:22-23 reminds us, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

  4. Surround Yourself with Faith-BuildersSpend time with people who uplift you spiritually. Their stories of faith can inspire you to trust God more in your own life. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 reminds us “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”

Living Out Faith

Faith isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about taking the next step, even when the road ahead looks blurry. It’s trusting that God is good, even when life doesn’t make sense.

So the next time you feel overwhelmed, remember this: Faith isn’t a sprint; it’s a daily walk. You don’t have to get it perfect. You just have to keep moving forward, trusting that God is holding your hand.

And don’t forget, faith is a gift! Ephesians 2:8 says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”

Faith isn’t about having superpowers; it’s about trusting the ultimate Power of God. One small step at a time, you’ll see that faith can transform even the most ordinary days into something extraordinary. Keep walking. God’s got you!

What does faith look like in your everyday life? Share a moment when trusting God made all the difference for you—I’d love to hear your story!
